Windows Vista™ Technical FAQ

Q1: Windows® Live™ Messenger 8.1 has stopped working. After signing in, an error message pops up, as the screen capture below shows. I did not encounter this problem with version 8.0.
Here are the details of the affected SW version:

  • The MSN build number is v8.1.0178.00.
  • eDataSecurity v2.5.3023 – v2.5.3028

Is there any solution to fix the problem?

A: Install an updated eDataSecurity 2.5.3032 to permanently solve the problem.

Click here to download eDataSecurity 2.5.3032.

To install:
(1) Save and unzip " eDataSecurity_2.5.3032_CSD.zip" to a temporary folder in the target PC running the Windows Vista™ operating system.
(2) Right-click "install_s.bat" and select Run as administrator.
(3) The User Account Control dialog box pops up with the message, "Windows® needs your permission to continue." Click Continue to proceed.

Q2: A message prompts me to activate Windows Vista™ on a computer that did not previously require Windows Vista™ activation. There are also warning messages saying, "This copy of Microsoft® Windows® is not genuine" or "The product key you have entered does not appear to be a valid Windows Vista™ product key." What should I do?

A:

To prevent this problem:

  1. Manually invoke Windows® Update to acquire the hotfix from Microsoft®.
  2. Directly download the hotfix from Microsoft® Download Center. Follow this link to the Microsoft® Knowledge Base article, KB931573 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931573/en-us).

To solve this problem if it has already occurred:

Two solutions are available, depending on the scenarios below.
Scenario #1: The system is still within the activation period — not yet expired and you can log in to Windows®.
Run Windows® Update to acquire the hotfix.

Scenario #2: The activation period has expired, and you cannot log in. Please follow the steps below.

  1. Click Type a different product key in the Windows® Activation pop-up message.
  2. Enter the product key found on your PC's product key sticker.
  3. Click Use the automated phone system.
  4. Choose the location nearest you to find available phone numbers.
Note: Microsoft® has also issued a Knowledge Base article, KB925616, to address this scenarioError message when you start Windows Vista™: "Your activation period has expired." Go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925616/en-us for details.

Q3: eNet Management 2.6.3003 always shows the message that WLAN is disconnected. Also, there is no available Wireless AP in the Russian and Greek versions of Windows Vista™. How can this be fixed?

A:

eNet Management 2.6.3005 is available to fix the problem.
Click here to download eNet Management 2.6.3005.

Q4: Why can I not play a DVD when I am using Windows® Media Player?

A:

On Windows Vista™ Home Basic and Windows Vista™ Business editions, Windows® Media Player does not support DVD playback. We suggest that you use the bundled PowerDVD® program to play a DVD. Regarding the limitation of Windows® Media Player on these Windows Vista™ editions, refer to the following Microsoft® website for more information:http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/dvdcodecs.aspx

Q5: Some elements of the user interface are found with linguistic errors or are truncated in the Danish, Norwegian and Swedish versions of Windows Vista™. What can be done to solve this problem?

Danish (KB932636):http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932636/en-us
