What to Do Before You Download Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)?

Acer recommands to follow some easy steps to prepare your Acer Computer before you download and install Windows XP Service Pack 2.


Please check back at this page, it is updated frequently

  • Update and run your spyware removal software (such as Ad-Aware) to scan and remove spyware.
  • Run your spyware software and remove any unwanted spyware, then reboot your computer and run the software again.
  • Update your anti-virus software, such as Symantec Norton Anti Virus and check the Virus Software vendor website for additional Information.
  • Update your firewall software (If you are using Symantec™ Norton Internet Security™ visit the web site for important update information.)
  • Verify if there are Driver Updates for your Acer Computer available and check for available Acer System BIOS updates.
  • We recommend to uninstall the bluetooth driver before updating to Windows XP SP2, as SP2 will install a Windows native bluetooth driver.

Does my Acer Notebook support an update to Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)?

    The following Notebook Models have been tested with Windows XP Service Pack 2:
  • Travelmate Series:
    230, 240, 250, 280, 290, 370, 380, 420, 430, 530, 540, 650, 660, 800
    2000, 2100, 2200, 2300, 2500, 2600, 2700, 3200, 4000, 4500, 6000, 8000
    C100, C110 and C300
  • Aspire Series:
    AS1300, AS1310, AS1350, AS1360, AS1410, AS1450, AS1500, AS1510, AS1520, AS1600, AS1606, AS1610, AS1620, AS1660, AS1670, AS1680, AS1700, AS1710, AS1800, AS2000, AS2010, AS2020
  • Extensa Series:
    EX2000, EX2300, EX2500, EX3000
  • Ferarri 3000 and Ferarri 3200

  • Acer Notebook Models shipped after October 1st 2004 should support Windows XP Service Pack 2 even if not listed above.

    Aces does not recommend to update to Windows XP Service Pack 2 for older Systems not mentioned in the above list.

Does my Acer PC support an update to Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)?

    The following Desktop Models have been tested with Windows XP Service Pack 2:
  • Veriton Series:
    3500G, 3600GT, 5500G, 7500G, 7600GT, 7700
  • Aspire Series:
    T120, T130
  • Power Series:
    Power F1
  • Altos Series:
    Altos G310 (This Server requires at least BIOS 0996)
    Other Altos models are dedicated to Server operating systems

  • Acer Desktop Models shipped after October 1st 2004 should support Windows XP Service Pack 2 even if not listed above.

    Aces does not recommend to update to Windows XP Service Pack 2 for older Systems not mentioned in the above list.

How much memory do I need for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)?

    Acer recommends to have a minimum of 256 MB RAM on before upgrading to Service Pack 2. In some cases it may even be advisable to to consider 512 MB RAM for optimized performance.

    How to check your System Memory:
    • Press the "Start" key
    • Select "Control Panel"
    • Select either "System" (in Classic View) or "Performance and Maintenance" and then the "System" icon (in Category View).

      The amount of MB of RAM will be displayed on the "General" Tab of the "System Properties". In the Example on the left you see only 192 MB of RAM.
