The Boot Block feature of Acer device protects the BIOS boot area ofth from the flash process and allows users to update the system BIOS without using the flash utility programme "Aflash".
How can I update the BIOS with the Boot Block function
To update the BIOS through the Boot Block feature, please follow these steps:
- Locate the jumper on the main board to enable the "Boot Block " function or enable the "Update BIOS with Boot Block" in the Boot Options menu in BIOS Setup, then reboot the system.
NOTE: Either the hardware jumper setting or the BIOS setup menu can enable the Boot Block function. However, if you cannot enter the BIOS setup menu, please use the hardware jumper setting to enable the boot block function.
- Insert a DOS 1.44-MB formatted diskette that contains the BIOS binary file into the floppy drive. When the system boots up, it automatically loads the BIOS file contained on the diskette into the flash BIOS ROM. During this process, your screen remains blank.
Caution: please make sure the diskette has been formatted (or quick formatted) before the BIOS file is copied.
If the BIOS is successfully updated, you will hear two long beeps, or one short beep, and then one long beep. After the beeps, the system will automatically turn off and the value 00h will be sent to port 80h.
NOTE: Port 80h is read by a debug card; therefore, issued error codes will not be displayed on your screen.
